Fans of Wii’s 2006 launch title Excite Truck might also enjoy the mayhem of the off-road racing in Ubisoft’s Nitrobike, another arcade game that lets you race a motorbike around any number of tracks, with options for online multiplayer play and nitro-powered rockets. Gamers hold the motion-sensing wireless Wii Remote horizontally and tilt left and right or forward and back to steer your bike accordingly. The “+” button activates your nitrous boost to soar past your opponents, but be careful how and when you use it as you might lose control and perform a face-plant in the dirt. While in the air you can perform slick moves, including combos, by pressing other buttons on the controller.

If you tire of the 20 or so levels and dozens of unique events, Nitrobike also supports six simultaneous players over the Internet. Be forewarned it can be difficult to find others because of the lack of available riders and the somewhat confusing online lobby screens. Once you’re vying for the finish line, though, the multiplayer racing is fast, smooth and fun. For what it’s worth, Nitrobike is still one of the few online titles available for the console (which might explain the lack of players available to race). It won’t likely win any awards—Dirt or MotorStorm it is not—but this arcade game with a decent trick system, nitro boost and online play isn’t a bad weekend rental for Wii-owning racing fans who want to get their hands dirty.
