Listen to a clip from Box, on Nicky Love's Honeyvision.

nicky love

By J.R. Taylor

Playboy.com: The release of your CD Honeyvision has been postponed several times.

Nicky Love: Yes, it's the big wheels of the record company. I'm in a production line and having to wait for my turn. I've just been waiting around, but it's given me the chance to move to LA. Now, finally, the moment has hit.

PB: How nerve-wracking has that been?

NL: It's weird. Obviously, I was hoping for everything to happen all at once. "I've made it! I'm here!" Instead, it's all been happening slowly. There are all these magazine articles that have already come out. I've just been going over the interviews, taking them apart. Soon, I'll have to start drawing the line. Right now, I'm enjoying all the press. But as soon as I read anything bad, I'll be very upset.

PB: Have you talked to the teen magazines?

NL: No, it just hasn't come up. The target market is Hot Adult Contemporary. It's not that I don't want to talk to the other magazines. To be honest, I think people underestimate kids. With all the music around, they become very good critics. My manager has a four-year-old and a six-year-old, and they can sing the words to all my songs.

PB: Is it more fun to think of grown men lusting after you or teenage boys?

THE BASICS

WHO IS SHE?:

She's not your average gorgeous singer-songwriter working in modern pop stylings. Nicky Love's debut album on DreamWorks Records, Honeyvision, mixes dark musings with some serious dance beats.

WHAT HAS SHE DONE?:

After a rise and fall in her native Australia as a member of the Freaked-Out Flower Children, Love found herself having to earn a living in London. She began hammering out her place in a pop culture that has an equal craving for dark self-obsession and frenzied dancing.

WHY DO WE CARE?:

The 28-year-old is beautiful, she's got a great voice and Honeyvision may be the album that finally makes today's lite pop start to grow up and reach some potential.
