Sporting Traditions
What began as a quaint Vermont tackle shop more than 150 years ago has blossomed into a national emblem of the outdoor industry. The small, feathered flies are still masterfully constructed, but now the lifestyle options from Orvis are nearly endless. From menswear to adventure and housewares to (soon) actual houses, Orvis has welcomed new ventures with outstretched arms -- all while maintaining a firm grip on its storied past.
Its identity is rooted in classic American tradition and landscape. "We're in business because the United States has this beautiful land that people can explore and enjoy," CEO Perk Perkins says. "Preserving that land is an investment in our future." In a world of artifice, many find it comforting to know an authentic old gem like Orvis is alive and thriving. And while the company can boast millions of customers across the globe, it remains wise enough to preserve the wilderness that supports it.
